The story behind Retrohale

Back-deck video

Coming soon — Mark, a smoke, and the deck.

I'm just a guy who loves cigars.

For me it's a rhythm. The morning starts with a cigar and a cup of coffee — that quiet hour before the day gets loud. And most evenings you'll find me out on my back deck: sun going down, a cold beer sweating in my hand, some music playing, and a cigar burning slow. Those two windows are the bookends of my day, and I protect them.

I build things for a living. This one I built for love.

It started the way a lot of good things do — out of being fed up. I used to keep a notebook next to my chair to jot down what I was smoking. Pen, paper, ash all over the table and the pages. And packing that thing around everywhere? Forget it. So I tried the apps. Didn't like a single one. Too much typing, they didn't flow, and half of them wanted a monthly fee, or threw ads in my face, or sold off my info — just to log a cigar I'd already paid for. That never sat right with me.

So I built the one I actually wanted. Tap, don't type. One quick photo — cigar balanced on my morning coffee cup, done — and back to the smoke. Dark, clean, easy on the eyes, because I stare at screens all day and I wanted this one to feel like the porch, not the office.

And I made myself a few promises with it. Free forever. No ads. No subscriptions. I will never sell your data. I'm not a company, and I'm not out to get rich off this — the only reason there's a "buy" button anywhere is a handful of affiliate links that keep the lights on so everybody can keep using it for free.

That's the whole thing. I'm just a fellow smoker who wanted something better and figured you might too. Brother of the leaf, sister of the leaf — this one's for you.

Pour yourself something, light one up, and enjoy it slow.
